C2-Water outlet housing

During the restoration of my 67 BB I noticed the water outlet housing/thermostat housing has the part number on the neck. However, the numbers are larger than what you see on the newer housings and not perfectly in line. I would have expected to see the part number on the flange but not in this case. Anyone else have this situation? The car was built in Jan. 67. Thanks

Mark, My Jan. 67BB also has a housing with part number on the neck. I dont know if its original or not but I lost points for it the last time I had the car judged. Tom

Mark - There's been a number of threads on the H2O/thermostat housing part number location; so check out the archives. Basically, there are those who think the only place for the part number is on flange, and then there are those who think there might have been more than one supplier (even up to three) back then and they elected to use alternative locations for the part number other than the flange. So what I've seen are several theories but so far I'm not convinced there has been a definitive answer that passes the "this is the WAY it was in '66 and '67" test. It's kind of like the theories on "hell." Is it hot or cold? Pete

Hi Mark,
In response to your part # location, I have two '67 BB cars and both have
the part # just as you stated with # on the outlet neck. The 400 hp car has
a build date of Dec. '66 and had a body off restoration. I am the fourth
owner so I didn't think too much about the possibility of the neck being wrong when I restored the car,so I went and found a correct outlet according to '67 Judging Manual. However last year I was able to purchase an unrestored '67 435 low milage ( 2 owner) car that I have known about for 33 years, and the part # is on the neck just like the 400 car and also your car. The build date on the 435 car is Sept '66. Makes you wonder doesn't it? I have no plans of ever changing the outlet on the 435 car. Both previous owners live only a short distance from me and I have talked to both of them on occasion.
