I have a friend with an original 1957 FI short block, needing rebuild. He also has an original FI throttle lever for a 57. He is thinking about selling them and he asked me what I thought they were worth. I don't have a good idea about the current value of these parts. Can anybody tell me what these parts are worth?

Re: 1957 FI parts value?
Mike needs a spare block. After boring and stroking his old "it must be original inside, because it got a Duntov" 283 to about 432 cubic inches, he just isn't sure he can trust the block strength anymore.
And no, Dennis didn't pay me to say that.
Merry Christmas, Doc Mike.

Re: 1957 FI parts value?
After you bore the block sooo big that you hit the water jackets and have to install master sleeves and pour the block, grind the bottom of the cylinders into water to clear the throws on the 4 3/8 stroker crank, I guess it is time for him to buy another block. Besides the 2 bolt mains are a little weak for the horsepower that it would make. Then again, it might be an 010 block with a little minor cosmetic surgery in the area of the flywheel housing. Then it might go 432 without major reconstruction Merry Christmas allDick Whittington- Top

Mike,
Yes, but would that be an E&M code for evaluation and diagnosis? Or a CPT code if I do the work as a procedure?

Re: 1957 FI parts value?
There is NO doubt, you've got Mikie pegged very accurately. He feels no remorse for incredible, unrelenting cheating in his failed attempt to win a race. Had his money been spent on training dealing with when you release the clutch pedal in relation to what the Christmas tree is trying to tell you, things might have resulted in a different ending. Merry Christmas to all... DC- Top

Dickie - It was outside LA - about 110 degrees in the shade. Dipstick suffered a major setback with an attempted "launch" that ate a u-joint, a driveshaft, part of a transmission and a bunch of pride. About 10K later, I got him... Boys and their toys. Would "we" do it again - you bet'cha little Beaver. Best, DC- Top

Re: 1957 FI parts value?
Yes, that's part of the rivalry I was getting at. I didn't know you could epoxy numbers on a Donovan small block and still get a Duntov.
My first National Convention that year in Warren. Of course, I was somewhat biased in the race, as I OJ'ed with Mike that year.

Re: 1957 FI parts value?
Knowing Doc "Q" (for quack daughter Chrissie sayes):D he probably has had a 540 mk IV in there. I have not figured how he has disguised the cylinder heads, but with his handy can of exoxy and dremel tool, Billy "C's" phone number, a case of the "Beast" and I sure he has done it. Since "Dipstick" has shown that you can conceal a bottle of "giggle gas" under the dash, I wonder where Doc hides it. The lines and nozzles are not too hard to conceal, running them thru the flywheel housing into the valve tappet valley with concealed nozzles on the bottom of the intake. All it takes is "cubic money" and plenty of time on your hands. MERRY CHRISTMAS ALLDick Whittington- Top
