Re: Speaking of Shock Absorbers on eBay....
Tracy-----
I had been following this auction (but, definitely NOT as a potential bidder). I just wanted to see how crazy folks would get over these shocks. Well, while they didn't go as high as I thought they might, I wasn't disappointed, either.
These shocks are the same part number (on the shock) as the PRODUCTION shocks used for 1964 through early 1968. These particular shocks are correctly dated for an early to mid 1967 and they are NOS.
Notwithstanding the above, anyone that would pay this sort of premium for TWO shocks just because they are correctly part numbered and dated is, in my opinion, NUTS (and, that opinion does not change if the buyer happens to be a visitor to this board, either). For one thing, these "numbers" and "dates" are extremely difficult, if not impossible, to discern for front shocks installed on the car. Even if they could be discerned, the "point value" for the numbers, alone, is not worth this sort of price.
Although all of the GM shocks of the exact original configuration are now discontinued, even the ones currently available are close enough to the original configuration that, once painted the original color with Quanta paint, I think that they would garner near full points. In fact, the upper portion of the current front shocks, which is where the major deviation from original configuration exists, is virtually impossible to see with the shocks installed in the car. The reminder of the shock is very close to the originals in configuration.
By the way, while someone here was paying almost $600 for a PAIR of shocks, I was in southern California enjoying some time with family and friends. However, I just couldn't resist the temptation to indulge in my obsesion, so I managed to break away long enough for a few, quick "side trips" to "scoop up" a few parts. Among those I obtained "here-and-there" was yet another full car set of Reactec Shocks [none for sale]. These shocks are configured ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL to the original shocks except for "numbers" and "dates". Plus, they are a modern technology, gas-charged shock which will perform FAR better than the ancient-technology original type. For the full car set of these discontinued and now hard-to-find shocks, I paid just a litle over 1/3 of what someone paid for these TWO shocks. Seeing what someone paid for these shocks made me feel good about purchasing the Reactecs which, considering my inventory of them and other shocks, I don't really need. I ABSOLUTELY KNOW that I got the better deal!In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: Mere Christmas Stocking Stuffers...
All I can think of is there are a lot of big time rollers out there with money to burn. I notice them at meets pulling their $100-G vett with a $70-G truck and a $60-G Trailer , wearing big-G gold to sink the Titanic. This is what our "HOBBY" has come to.- Top
