    Turn signals not working

My directional signal lamps do not work. I have a new wiring harness and when installed everything worked. Now a few months later I tried the directional signal and they do not work. Tail lights work, brake lights work but no turn signal. The indicator light on the dash does not light. I tried another flasher and still nothing . When I put my voltmeter across the terminals for the flasher I get 11.5 volts when the lever is in the turn position. Any ideas?

It is a 65 with back up lights *NM*

      I have to ask...

Have you tried it with the engine running? 11.5v is pretty low, if you have. I'd expect to see a little over 14v above idle speed. At idle, my TS barely work. Never tried it engine-off, but it probably wouldn't work at all.

Since the brake lights work and you have power on both sides of the flasher. I would be suspicious of the t/s switch or the wiring to/from the switch. The rest of the circuitry is shared with the brake lights.

I suspect the switch too. I read in the archives that if there is power at the purple wire at the switch connection then the flasher is probably OK and it is most likley the switch. Does anyone know how to bypass the switch with jumpers to see it is the switch for sure?

What year car is it. Since you're refering to a purple wire, I assume it's a C2 or C3. If it has a remote flasher, just insert a jumper wire into the two slots on the plug to bypass teh flasher. The flasher should be a closed switch without the bulbs burning. You can test it with an ohm meter.

              Thanks and Merry Christmas

It's a 65. I jumpered it out at the purple wire and got all 4 turn signal lights to work as I jumpered each one of them. It has to be a bad turn signal switch
