    Droopy Hardtop Headliner

Got the hardtop out for the 69 and put it on for the first time since I've owned the car. The headliner above the rear window droops about 1 1/2 inches. The two center "velcro" like grippers will not hold it up. I made a form out of some 1x4 pieces of pine, wet down the masonite board that formed the base of the headliner and tried to reform it by clamping woodworking clamps to the pine form. After soaking for about 2 days, I let it dry, then took the form off. No luck. It still droops. It's marginally better than before. Any suggestions ? The headliner and hardtop are in excellent condition. It doesn't look like it was ever wet before my "reforming" try. Thank you. Chuck Gongloff

Had similar problem(s) with my '71 and the rear side curtain pieces wanting to let go from the original plastic velco. Knew if I used cyanoacrylite (super glue) to 'stone' the problem, just as sure as shooting I'd need to disassemble the headliner for some reason.

Squirted a modest daub of clear RTV (silicon bathtub caulk) into the velcro fastener(s), snapped 'em together and used a backstop to hold in place while adhesive setup overnight. So far, so good....
