    I came across this 4-speed dated feb 22 1957. At what month were the car's being produced with the 4-speed? Thanks john

      I've never seen one dated that early. what's the date on the tailhousing? is tailhousing cast iron or aluminum?mike

        Is that the casting date on the main case

        or the stamped date of assembly on the left side, ie "W02227-_"?

          The stamped date on the case beside the side cover is WB2272. Thanks john

            Too early for me - the first PRODUCTION ones

            left the plant on April 15, 1957

              Loren: which plant( warner of st louis) and where did you come by this info?Or was it a question of the law boards? thanks , mike

                Mike, it's off a Chevrolet work order dealing

                with preparation of another car - the reference on the work order is typed stating that the production 4 speeds will be shipped on April 29, 1957 - the 29 is lined through and a pen/ink number "15" is inserted.
