The headlight door on my 1970 is rubbing on the back side (toward the windshield, inner corner) when it lifts up. It is not a left-right problem. I have loosened the three bolts on both sides of the assembly and then tightened them with the back corners of the door as high as they will go. I have also adjusted the single bolt that raises the front end of the door and that helps a little. With the door semi-level and the front edge even a little higher than the rest of the body the clearance is nill. The other door on the car has very minimal clearance as well on the back side of the door. Am I missing something here? Is there another adjustment? I have loosened the three bolts on each side numerous times and at the same time and am getting nowhere. Anyone else experience this? I just got the car painted and evertime the door hits I loose a chunk of paint and its killing me. Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: C3 Headlight Doors -What Else Can I DO
Don, the door needs to be level when closed. They need to be spaced equally for and aft. Try moving the door forward. It's possible that the metal header bar has come loose and that will make the lights "sink" in the opening. Did the painter remove the lights to paint the car?
Hope this helps, Dan- Top

Re: C3 Headlight Doors -What Else Can I DO
Don, the mounting holes for the headlamp support are pretty generous...you could try loosening the bolts that secure the support, and moving the entire support forward and re-tightening the bolts. I'm not sure, but this may require removing the front bumper to access the front bolts.
The holes for the bearing assemblies are also oversized and should provide almost +/- 1/8" forward/aft adjustment and more than that up/down. Of course, if the support is too far aft, you can't take advantage of that adjustment range.- Top

Don If you did not replace the sheet metal header it may be coming loose and if it was replaced it may be in the wrong position. To deal with the problem adjust the main frame and the bearings. If this won't get it fixed you may need to grind out some holes to make it fit as something is out of alignment. LyleLyle
