I am putting togeather a set of orig. wheels and hubcaps, i got the caps and it looks like the weights will interfear with the caps if the weights were mounted on the outside of the wheel. were there weights on the outside of wheels?

Lee - Factory AIM called for weights to be mounted inboard only. This does compromise balancing to some degree. Outside balance weights will fit, I believe, but I'd try it with inside only and see how that goes. In judging, a VERY minor deduction would probably be taken for outer weights. Plus, they look lousy and tend to chip wheel paint. -

In regards to this topic, I need to get hubcaps for my 59. What is the difference between the originals and the repros. that are out there? My car will be a VERY nice driver, but I'm not going for a #1 car.Comment

Originals were flashed chrome and take on a an icy blue tint. The repro are polished stainless and take on a yellowish tint due to the nickel in the stainless.

For a while, 2 different wheel covers were available (1) An import set that was quite "yellow" in color and (2) a USA made set that are quite good in both quality and color. I do not know if both are still available. Of course, the good ones cost somewhat more, but I believe, worth it. Buying a set of originals is a thought, but if you have to restore them, the price tag goes up quite rapidly.Comment
