    tranmission #'s

Can anyone clarify what these numbers mean in a 71 Ls-5..

    Driver side cover -952648

    Driver side tag-981710WY

    Pass side -3925661

    Pass side patent-30883356

    Pass side rear-10 P1A21B (I found that p=muncie hd 4 sp, 1=1971, a21=jan 21, b=m21 close ratio) but what does the 10 signify?

Pass side pad-C11S108586 (the serial number matches engine pad and vin) what does c11 mean?

    thanks

    Rick,

I can only help a little.

Regarding the "C11" proceeding the VIN on the passenger's side pad: I don't know what the "C" stands for, but the first "1" stands for Chevrolet and the second "1" stands for 1971 (like in your VIN).

Good luck with the other Q's.

John is correct - additionally the C also stands for Chevrolet. I have no Idea what the number in front of the PXXXX stands for. I have never seen a number stamped in front of the transmission assembly number.

However, since the VIN derevitave matches your car - be happy.
