Unfortunately I have click in the speedometer and have to remove the instrument cluster on my fully restored 67'. Do I need to remove the steering column to get them out? Sure would appreciate any other tips for keeping this as simple as possible. Thanks !! Mike Arteaga

Re: Removing instrument cluster on 67'
The suggestion made to me, after removing the column, is to replace the bolts holding the cluster in with long studs screwed in (6-8"). This allows you to pull the cluster out while still supporting it and being able to reach behind to loosen everything.
I'm going to try this when I put mine back in.

Re: Removing instrument cluster on 67'
Mike,
------Are you sure your speedo cable is functioning correctly? Often,a lack of lubricant or binding situation in the cable can translate up into the speedo head. Check it out,as it is easier than pulling the cluster, and you will have at least eliminated this as a source of noise if you find you still have the noise.........Bill S- Top

Re: Removing instrument cluster on 67'
Our Adirondack Chapter pulled a cluster from a 66 and I took the time to document the activity as I too will have to do this in the near future as my gears need replacement as well ---- click on the link below for a detailed procedure.

Re: C2: Will lubricating the cable or gear assy...
Yes --- use motorcycle chain lubricant. Remove the cable from the tranny and pull it up in to the engine compartment so the lubricant will flow down in the cable.
Worked for me.

Re: Removing instrument cluster on 67'
Yes, you'll have to "drop" the steering column. You can make the job easier if you take a couple of pieces of 12" threaded bar the same size as the screws that hold the instrument panel in place and use them as supports while removing it.- Top
