I recently purchased a master cylinder for my 68 with power brakes. The Judging Manual states it should be casting # 5480346. What I received yesterday was something that LOOKS correct but has a casting number of 5468309. Can anyone please tell me what vehicle cast # 5468309 is for? Is it for a later year Corvette or some other GM product. Thanks in advance for any input. Kurt Bunting

Re: Master Cylinder Question
Kurt, last year, I wanted to restore the cylinder on my late 67 big block, but when I went to send it in, I found out that the number was different than that specified in the judging manual. Your question prompted me to go back thru my notes, and sure enough, the cylinder I removed was #5468309. I thought that perhaps it was a '68 part, and the factory just ran short of the 509 (67) parts. I sent the unit in to ASL for reconditioning, and they told me that the 309 was from another model of car (Camaro I think). I think they gave me 5 or 10 bucks as a core, and I bought a reconditioned 509 cylinder from them. I'll be pretty upset if I find out that the 309 really is for a 68 vette-- of course ASL is not in business anymore. So, the short of it is, I dont think you have an original cylinder, although the configuration is correct. Let me know if you find out differently.
