    C1 wheels

61 vette wheels are welded, I hear about dog bone? is this the type of weld or what? also would like to know if GM was stamped on the center hub close to the hole for lug stud (visible from outside?)I am getting ready to buy a set and would like to know any markings or how to tell they are right for a 61

Lee--too cold to go out and check for the GM stamping--but can tell you with absolute certainty that 61 wheels did not have the dog bones--they were spot welded and did not have the bones.
They also had the important extra raised circumferential ridge on the center section prior to it's heading down toward the outer rim.

Keep that photo - It's worth 1,000 words, and better each time. Seriously, how about 1960? I say no bones that year, but at least one good member does not agree.

Lee - I agree with Mike Ernst's post. I also appreciate Roy's picture to depict what is not correct for the automobile you are working on. Best, Dennis

                In the doggy house!

I also appreciated Roy's photo but in a much different way. I called my wife into the room and showed her that Roy brought a car wheel into the living room to take a picture on the carpet. What a guy! TP

                        Slit slot vs U slot

OK - All you guys that got digital cameras and know how to use them. Wheels: There is one that has what I refer to as a "slit slot". This would be the area between the spider and the rim. Then there is the "U" shaped slot between the spider and the rim. I have trouble describing this to people, but I'll bet one photo would end the issue. Please help. I hope at least one faithful NCRS member knows what it is I'm trying to express. If not, cut me off... DC

Re: Slit slot vs U slot

I still have that little ole lady's (literally) unmolested 62 in my shop, and I just went and checked the wheels (it still has all 5 originals).
Two spot welds at each location.
No slots, dog bones, U or anything else, just plain and straight.
One raised hump between 2 lug bolt holes has GM stamped on the outside.
                          It's an Apr car.

Thanks for the responce, the picture was great i have been wondering about this for quite a wile, this might of saved me a couple of big bills, well worth a membership fee, i still don"t kmow what Dennis is talking about? or what a spider is but i agree with him on the cameras. this would clear up alot of confussion. one more question about the GM stamp, do they make repos and would they have the GM mark.I don"t want to get riped. I hear that 55-56 chevy wheels are the same?
