    C 1 T-10 Trans

I have a 1958 # J58S102838. I will be looking for a re-built BW T-10 while at the Winter Regional next month. My questions - I believe the car was built in early January 1958 - correct me if I'm wrong please - what month build date should I be looking for in 1957 and are there other numbers I should be aware of and where are they located. Question 2: If I'm unsuccessful in locating the transmission in Florida, who is a reliable re-builder/seller you have had success with in T-10's.
Last question - what is a reasonable price to pay for the transmission with a warranty for parts and labor. Thank you in advance for your reply.

Shou8ld be a T-10 (not a B) case, and the tail housing is both unique and dated. I'll be there, look me up if I can help. They are pricy!

As a follow-up to my initial inquiry concerning the above questions, I thought it would be wise to try to determine what I currently have in the car. It works fine. This is from an old observation, but here goes - the transmission is a 4-speed with a tag # 3915077 and the top of the cover has 3884655 GM. The car had a 305 in it when I bought it so who knows what this beast is. Again, your help is always appreciated, and you all have a Happy New Year!

I found two 58 transmissions several years ago that would work for my May 1958 project. One was going for $3000 and the other for $3600--and I am not sure they were rebuilt. I suspect a correctly dated T-10 in this early period is not a cheap affair. By the way, I did not buy either and will live with my muncie until some future luckier day comes along.

Bill: consider yourself lucky in that you need a 58 T-10(2-3K$) vs a 57 t-10 which fetch 5 to 10( if you can rely of asking prices) .mike

Thanks to all for your information. This will take a lot of hard thought on my part in deciding to purchase if I can find one. I did return e-mail to those who replied by e-mail, but it all came back this morning. I have resent the e-mail and hope you'll get my reply. Again, thanks for your input and if the transmission I have is a Muncie, can anyone tell me what type and year of vehicle it fits.
              Again, thanks!

July 57 assembly date as original equipment - told the owner that he could go sample the 1957 market for some $$$, but he declined as he had owned the car 35 years. Doctors can afford to do that.......
