    63 wheel dates or codes

Gentlemen! Is there a way to identify the wheels on my 63? i.e. date codes, markings,! three of the four on the car I can see signs of white paint under the black paint covering them at the present time! White would be correct, as the car is white, however I have the car for sale and would like to be sure that if I tell someone they are orig. that in fact they are! Thanks for any input on this matter!!!!!! #24633

The year date code is found stamped on the INSIDE of the steel rim so you can't see this unless the tire is removed. There should not be a drilled hole on the spider area of the rim. I think all rims were initial black painted...then depending on the choice of tire options ..(white wall/black wall) the rims exterior was painted to match the Body color (but only with the non-white wall) Not having any visable date codes is good news.It would be interesting if you have the original spare to see if its a WW or BW tire.

63 and 64 steel wheels have a unique rear configuration. They do not have the "safety bead" around the rim, which was added, I believe, in 1965. They are conical in shape on the back, 5 1/2 inches wide. 64 wheels have a hole drilled in the spider area, 63's do not. They are very unique, expensive wheels, and are tough to find at swap meets. The dates are on the inside, so you can't see them with the tires mounted. Chuck
