    1965 Air Conditioning

Hi, I am looking for some help or information. I have a 1965 coupe 350hp w/ac. The car had the air removed some time ago and I am slowly getting the parts to put it back in working condition. I recently aquired the outer and inner boxes. On the outer box there appears to be two brackets?? which have been hacksawed off leaving the base. Both are spot welded to the cover of the evaporator. One bracket is above the resistor and to the right. The 2nd is below the resistor and to the right, near one of the evaporator bolt holes.

Most of the photos that I have seen in the REstoration & Tech Guide Vol 2 do not give a clear photo of the evaporator.

Does anyone have an idea 1) what the brackets were used for, POA or Expansion valves? 2) are the brackets specific to a year?

If anyone has digital photos of the evaproator or outer box of a functioning AC, to share, it would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks
    Dick

    Re: 1965 Air Conditioning

Dick -- the only bracket I can see on my '65 L76 that could have been welded to the evaporator cover housing is that which holds the upper pipe coming out of the top of the Suction Throttling Valve (it's an L-shaped angle with the short flat of the "L" tacked or spot-welded (I suppose) to the housing. This is about 1½" inboard from the edge of the INDAK resistor, and on the vertical wall of the cover/housing.

There's a lower bracket as well on the lower main body of the STV, but it seems bolted to the housing at both ends.

I can look closer for more detail if needed --(sorry, no digital camera).

First thanks for dropping me a note. The bracket you see is one of the brackets that I am interested in. Can you describe how the bracket attaches to this pipe? i.e. how long the perpendicular portion is, does it taper etc etc. On mine the base is about 1" and I am assuming the piece or part that attaches to the pipe is hidden under that putty like stuff.

The 2nd bracket seems to be very close in location to the 2nd one you describe. I do have the two studs that hold the Suction Throttling Valve bracket, but that bracket can be removed. The one I am interested in is about 4" above the mid point between the two studs. Since have a 65 yo look at I suspect this bracket might have been used on one or two other years.

      Take Care
