59 PG or not?

My 59 currently has a powerglide. The engine however has a manual suffix code. I haven't gotten the chance to get the date off of it. I believe it's under the vent tube? The date on the glide is correct for the car. The center section of the rear end is a 62 unit (replacement?). I cannot find the "code" on the rear axle assmbly to see if it is a PG unit. Where are they located at?
What is the best way to determine if a car was originally a PG or manual car? I'm trying to decide whether the block or the tranny needs to go down the road. The car was built about April 27, 1959.

Look to see it the bracket for the clutch cross-shaft was welded onto the frame, or if any of the clutch linkage is present under the dash.

Kevin, locate brake hose clip on front driver frame side and go back 6 to 12 inch span--check top side for old clutch tower/clutch bracket welds on top outer frame surface. If it feels or looks perfectly smooth I would think this might be a real good indicator that she was an automatic--maybe.
