    64 coupe wiring harness

Still trying to install the complete harness on the 64. What kind of a screw is needed to fasten the fuse box under the dash? The manual states a "special screw" Still trying to find power! The AIM states something about routing thru the horn relay for power to the dash?? What about ground straps, do they all have to be installed before power can be restored? Thanks and every NCRS member have a HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The screws are "special" in that they have a long unthreaded shank - otherwise they're a #12 tapping screw. All the power for the car (except the direct feed to the starter stud from the battery) comes from the horn relay screw terminals (the power "bus" location). There's a 12-ga. red wire from the big stud on the starter that feeds this horn relay junction, and power is fed inside the car from there through another 12-ga. red wire through the inboard multiple connector on the engine compartment side of the fuse block. Ensuring that all grounds are in place is essential so each component has a current path back to the battery. I recommend installing a 16-ga. fusible link wire at the starter stud end of the 12-ga. main power feed wire, as the original design has NO circuit protection on this main feed, and a dead short will fry a LOT of harnesses and could start a fire (this circuit finally got a fusible link starting in '67).

        Re: 64 coupe wiring harness

While everyone's mind is on a 64 Coupe under dash wiring harness. I have two installation questions: First coming off the main wiring harness by the kick panel is a long brown wire. Can anyone tell me where this goes. I have looked over the wiring diagram and assembly manual and though it went to the brake switch capacitor, but now I am not sure: and the second question is the brake switch capacitor connection, do each of the strape connection go to each of the brake switch terminals? I looked under an original '63 and the steering column is differnet and so is the wiring.
