My '58 had two engines with it when I bought it. Both are '58 date coded with one being a couple of months earlier than the other. The stamp pad characters are slightly different between the two. On one the 0's and C is more rounded (i.e. oval) and on the other they are more square (i.e. vertical is flat vs. rounded). My thoughts were the rounded 0's could be explained using an "O" (O)vs. a "0" (zero). On some pads I've seen both used on the same pad. That still doesn't explain the C. Did GM use both? Can someone send me a pic of their verified stamp pad for comparison? TIA

Re: '58 stamp pad
The way I understand the stamping is that different sets of fonts and for each day and many sets of fonts used in sometimes differing positions, backward, upsidedown at times,
for most c1 c2 years in general not specific to 58 .
So you would have to compare one of you pads to another stamped the same day not just year.Check the archives I think it was John H. that posted it.
Or I.ve read you can send a traceing to Al also In the archives.- Top

Re: '58 stamp pad
Mike, I am getting a little mixed up on this? Nothing new in my life. I have seen pictures of Ted's pads on both these blocks. The little that I understand is that the pad stamping is beyond question a correctly formatted corvette stamping for a 58--both his blocks. Could character styles be different if assembly changed from the 739 block to 519 blocks. Ted had an earlier thread related to this issue (519 changeover?) and no one responded to him. Surely we have a smart guy on this subject who can resolve for him? Mike, that wasn't directed at you either and I loved the pittman and draglink.- Top
