Can someone direct me to a reputable source for parts for the N-03 36 gallon tanks used from 63 - 67? As always, thanks in advance for your help. Rex #8089

Re: N-03 36 gallon tank
Rex------
I don't know of ANY source for components related to the 63-67 N-03 fuel tank. I don't think that any of the components are reproduced. A while back, someone turned out a "short run" of certain pieces like the tank, itself, and the interior cover. How good these were, I don't know. These were all sold, though, as there were very few made. It's possible that Semmersheims might do some of the fiberglass components.
Believe it or not, until October, 1992, the tank retaining straps were still available from GM for these tanks. All other components related to the system were discontinued more than 25 years ago.
If anyone has anything, at all, along these lines I'd say that it would likely be Long Island Corvette Supply, Paragon Vintage, or Pipers Corvette Specialties. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: N-03 36 gallon tank
-----Due to the fact that Rich from Long Island Corvette has several N03 cars,I think he would be the place I would start. Sending units were available up into the 80s,I believe. Im sure some of those are around being hoarded. The hose from the filler neck to the tank was in LISs catalog, and may still be. Cant lay my hands on the catalog at this moment so Im not sure if it still is.
-----Other advice:Keep looking in that Driveline,no matter how late it gets to you!........Bill S- Top

Re: Tanker parts / C2 Tank Straps Q
Might add Bob Jones (of AZ, Z06 survey) to a contact for knowing where there might be some N03 parts. Back in April '03, eBay (didn't record the seller) was listing repro parts; winning bid prices: cover $305 , fender caps $255, side rails $255, gas filler plate $57, other brackets, for a total of $1041. The same batch was repeated a few weeks later, but only pulled a total bid of $565 (the demand saturates quickly on this stuff). Back in March '03 (again eBay), Corvette Central offered a used 3831920 (front strap anchor brace) and 2 NOS straps 3828315 for a total of $250 (no bidders).
Now for my question: I've never seen the 20 gal straps 3819930 listed in the GM parts catalogs ('65, '67 and '70); it's always the N03 strap, with the comment "44.83 inches developed length; Necessary to trim 9.75 inches from hook end and rework". So it seems that they stocked the "big tank" strap and you cut to fit for the base tank, although their comment did not mention the 20 gal tank. Have others seen GM straps fabricated for the small tank ?
Seems strange to stock straps for only 0.18 percent of C2 production (ie. require re-work on 99.82%.- Top

Re: Tanker parts / C2 Tank Straps Q
Wayne-----
The GM #3819930 strap used in PRODUCTION for mid-years with standard tanks was NEVER available in SERVICE. Also, I can confirm that GM NEVER catalogued a replacement tank strap for standard tank 63-67 Corvettes. I have wondered why for years.
The reference to the "cut and rework" as annotated in the P&A Catalogs may IMPLY that the "cut and rework" was necesary for the standard tank usage. However, in standard P&A Catalog terminolgy, this annotation applies to the STATED APPLICATION (i.e. the 36 gal tank application). So, "translating this", it would mean that for the 36 gallon tank application the straps were supplied too long and needed to be "cut and reworked" for THAT application. That may not be accurate, of course, but that's how it would be interpreted in "P&A standard terms".
I think that this whole thing amounted to an error someone made years ago and the error, for whatever reason, never got "rooted out" of the system. That error, or a related error, may also be why the 3819930 straps never got ordered into SERVICE inventory by GMSPO.
Some years ago, I came upon a part number which was supposedly for the 63-67 straps. I KNOW that it was not from any P&A Catalog, though. I recall that the number did not even look like a Chevrolet-series part number. Unfortunately, if I wrote it down, I don't know where. I've looked in the places I would have expected that I would have written it down. I also recall that I checked it out and the part number was for a fuel tank strap and it was an active number at that time.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
