As many of you know the 68 is about to roll out to meet the body, I may have a problem though that I might need to fix now. The motor and trans are together on the chassis with the shift linkage. Should the shift linkage move through the gears or just into neutral? Refraze, I know the cluch needs to be pushed in to shift through the gears, but if the trans is in 1,2,3,4 should it easily slip out into neutral? I may have the linkage on wrong, but from last months post someone stated that it's full proof to put on. Feels like its stuck. I put a new centerforce high performance clutch in, could this be it? I need for it to be in neutral, how would you put a M21 in neutral with or without the linkage on, maybe thats where I should restart. jc

Re: Trans/shifter check out.
Chester, linkage installation is not entirely foolproof. You shouldn't need the clutch depressed to get into neutral or any gear. Gentle fore/aft rocking of your rolling chassis should reposition the gears and permit shifter selection. Are you sure that the trans is not locked, ie. in more than one gear at a time ? Sometimes the culprit is reverse (the shifter lever on the tailshaft should be at the FORWARD=neutral position). Make sure the other levers are in the middle position (not necessarily vertical) before attaching the shifter rods. Hope this works for you.- Top
