    MASTER CYLINDER ID

I recently purchased a '67 master cylinder with the following codes:
    casting #5480346 D1. 1 1/8" bore dated 9332.
The half moon machined surface on the front is stamped with the letters "SA".
Does anybody know what GM vehicle this is for?
    Thanks.

It's not a Corvette master cylinder. The "SA"-coded master cylinder was used on 1967 and early 1968 Chevrolet passenger cars with front disc brakes and 1967 to 69 Camaros with disc brakes. The part number for the complete unit (which does NOT appear on the master cylinder anywhere) was GM #5458528 or 5469489.

The particular master cylinder that you have was manufactured on 332nd day of 1969, so it may be a SERVICE unit.

The 5480346 CASTING was used on Corvettes. For 1967, it was used for J-56 applications only. From 1968 to about 1976 it was used for power brake applications, J-50 or J-56. It MAY be possible to build up a Corvette master cylinder from this unit by changing some of the internals and removing the internal check valve from the rear brake circuit fitting.
