    Re: 67 L88 (identify)

Gary, Patrick, Lou ---- will someone please describe this car for the benefit of the half dozen of us who were NOT at Bloomington this year ? At least the colors (VIN if known) would help, if there's reluctance to mention names. With over 100 views on some postings in this thread, I"m certain there are also others who are curious.

I've been following some of these cars prior to Earthquake '88. --- TIA

    Wayne,

I'll say what I remember, and maybe Lou can add.

The car was a 67 conv, white with red (?) interior and hood stripe. It wore a hardtop, and I didn't check for a soft top. The block was stamped, and it did appear to have original broach marks, but see my previous post on previous known original motor 67 L-88's. The rally trim rings and center caps were not displayed on the car. The documentation shown was a photocopy of what appeard to be the original bill of sale. No tank sticker or window sticker were shown. Sorry that I didn't get the VIN, as I couldn't believe anyone would try the For Sale field with a real 67 L-88. Believe it or not, the car did not seem to attract much attention. Maybe others thought the same?

One of my fellow club members overheard the owner of "Amateur Group" Corvette Sales in "Churchill, Ohio" (names changed to protect the innocent) that he knew the one displaying the car had previously brokered dubious heritage cars, and that there was a possibility of a counterfeit car. THIS IN ONLY HEARSAY!!! IT IS NOT MY OPINION!!!

Anyway, I had thought that all 20 cars were "known" already, so I was a little surprised to see this one all by itself. Actually, I think of the 20 made, I've now seen all 24...

Any others know more? I'd actually be happy if it turns out to be another real one.

Isn't it amazing how 50 of the original 20 67 L-88's survived. Only more amazing is that 100% retain their original engine. Buyer beware. I know of a '67 clone L-88 in town and I would like to purchase if the owner ever wants to sell. What a grocery getter and National Convention Road Tour car that would be. Drive them till the drop.
