On my '59 there is piece of metal rivoted to the underside of the floor trans tunnel. It is about 8" long, "U" shaped and runs over the front u-joint back from the back of the shifter. My guess is it is a guard. Is this a stock GM piece or is it after market like the blowproof bellhousing on this car? Thanks. Pat G.

Pat-----
I think that I erred. I thought that you were talking about a loop that went BELOW the driveshaft. As I re-read your post, I note that you are very clear about the fact that it is ABOVE the driveshaft. As others have pointed out, I believe that was an original configuration. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: C1 front u-joint guard.&..heat shields
Talking guards I've seen many C1's with and with out HEAT shields (2) under the body (back area) above the mufflers that keep heat from the gas tank area. They were riveted to the body, any one out there in Corvette world notice this situation. Owners complaining about the heat coming from behind their head usely are missing them- Top
