I am putting after market power steering on a '66 BB that also has aftermarket air. Does it make any difference if I cannot route the various belts per the assembly manual as long as I come up with a configuation that all belts drive the necessary accessories?

Re: Belt Routing Questions - C2
I would think not, but bear in mind that the belt needs to get a decent grip on anything it is driving, probably more so on the pulley it is being driven by and on small driven pulleys (alternator, P/S, A/C, A.I.R, etc)... perhaps at least a 90 degree wrap around the crank pulley and a 60 degree wrap around any driven (non-idler) pulleys. Also, if one belt drives multiple loads, the belt will likely be more prone to failure.
Every big block seems to have one belt devoted solely to driving the water pump exclusively, so I'd think twice about adding anything to that belt path. The stock setup for what you describe adds a pulley to the water pump to drive the A/C compressor, and a pulley to the P/S pump to drive the alternator.- Top
