Does anyone know how to restor aluminin valve covers? and what does the factory finish look like (C-1), would glass beading do the job and look right? or is there a chemical that would work? Is there any judging on it.

Lee,
The driveline is one of the publications (the Corvette restorer mag is the other) that comes as part of NCRS membership.
The driveline provides an opportunity to place add for sale or wanted free of charge to the membership.
Service and parts Suppliers can pay to advertise here and do so because the people who are NCRS members are also their client base.
NCRS Membership is a bargin. The money you save preventing mistakes will be more than enough to cover the $35 annual fee.

Re: Aluminum Restoration C-1 -C-2
Don't glass bead them as it will change the surface texture. If they aren't too badly oxidized you might be able to get good results doing them yourself. I used Busch Aluminum Wash followed with Busch Super Super Aluminum Shine and Polish to do mine and was very happy with the results. The wash will remove oxidation and brighten the aluminum. The polish will shine them up nicely and give some resistance to future dulling. As you know, these manifolds never had much shine. I'm not sure the alloy used but these seem to be a low grade of cast aluminum that is impossible to polish up like a fine billet piece BUT be careful not to over polish them after cleaning. An old tooth brush is handy to clean between the fins and be sure to have plenty of soft cotton or flannel rags on hand.- Top

Send them to Jerry MacNeish ( www.z28camaro.com ) for "re-skinning" and they'll come back looking just like this (this is the early low-script version).
