    C3 1972 SEAT SHIMS

I have ordered several seat shims kits and all of them had the wrong
    washers.
If these are available in correct reproduction parts for a 72 let me know the
    source.
It my understanding these are hard to come by.

    John,

    Describe "wrong."

I compared my reproductions (I think purchased from Corvette Central; I could check) with two original sets. Other than the striations on the side of the washers, I don't believe there was a difference. The judges at one event thought the "finish" was wrong, but I'm not sure about that based on my exam. I put the whole repro bag, washers, etc in the glovebox, and only got 1 point off at Nationals this year. No points off at Regionals.

I didn't think it was worth the hassle to go any farther, as good used units are not cheap. For $20 for 4 points it likely already exceeds the "logical points per dollar" number.

I was referring to the striations on the side of the washers. Unfortunately for me It goes beyond points. I don't have a restored corvette nor do I have a survivor.Just a nice 72 with this uncontrollable urge (sickness) to bring it back to as close to original as possible by replacing any parts that are missing. Of course without breaking the bank. I first try to find original parts, which I must do via phone because there are no parts cars in Louisiana. (there all project car ha). If I cant find a used part I break out my catalogs.

Contact Sal @ RPOVETTE@AOL.COM OR CALL HIM DIRECT @ 1-860-649-2241.

        COST $45 + $5 SHIPPING = TOTAL $50.

          Gregg,

$50 vs. $20 is the reason I have the $20 set. For the "possible" extra point you spend $30. In Terry language, that's a $135,000 car. I'll take that for the 72 any day.

If my memory from early June is correct, and Sal's are also reproduction, we couldn't tell the difference between the two sets. Except the price. I'd have to ask Gary Schisler to confirm.

I stopped at Sal's space at Carlisle last year and viewed a pritstine original seat shim set along with his repro set. If there were differences other than the obvious age of the metal and its "shiny-ness", I couldn't see them. I also don't recall that this his repro unit had the gray phosphate on it. (Is that correct - black phosphate? Don't have my JG.) The originals MAY have had a bit more pronounced striations but I really don't recall exactly. As I said, side-by-side they looked virtually identical.

You remember my set? If I recall, they looked quite good next to your originals.

Is that your recollection as well?
