Any innovative recommendations/solution to release the hood after having the hood release lever and roughly 12 inches of the inner cable broken off? This vette has the 427 and makes it a bit difficult to get hands up in there from under the underside of engine compartment.

Clark:
I had the same thing happen last fall on my '69. Mine is a small block but it has power brakes which makes it more difficult. The way I got it open was to remove the triangular splash shields from the underside so I could reach up at a better angle to clear the power brake booster. To do this I had to remove the rocker trim pieces to access the 2 bolts that are underneath. Once I had these off, I was able to reach up and grab the release lever and pull it down by hand. There is also supposed to be a large plug in the toe kick in the general vicinity of the release mechanism that could be removed and gain access from under the dash but I have not been able to find it. Good luck.

Re: 69 Hood Release cable broke
Have not had to do this yet, but there is access from under the wiper door/cowl grille. Inline and behind the hood latches are plastic plugs that are removed and a instrument inserted to push on the hood latch to release it.- Top

Clark,
Nothing beats a picture. Mid America has a nice "how to" when it comes to your problem.

Very good post! A picture is worth many thousand words in this situation, especially if it is about 100 deg, your motor is hot, and you have 50 friends laughing at you and trying to tell you how to do it.Dick Whittington- Top
