    '61 hardtop

I am restoring a hardtop on my '61 sn 104939. I am in the process of ordering the glass. The stamped date on the orginal is 760. Three digets for Jul 1960. My car was assembled approx. Jan. 23rd. 1961. This is probably not the orginal top. I would like to stamp the numbers closer to the orginal date, like 1160, but is that correct? The judging manual states that the "0" was dropped so it would be 116? No dashes (-), since the orginal has none? If I want to date it on Nov. 1960, what is the correct way? Is there any reason why I shouldn't change the date closer to the assmebly date from the orginal? Is this an acceptable practice?
    If I change it to Nov. 60, should it be (1) 116, or (2) 1160, or (3) 11-6, or (4) 11-60?
How is it stamped on the '58 thru '60 hardtops.
I know these are a lot of question. I would appreciate any input.

    Thanks,

    Ray Hoctor

Ray - Instead of my opinion, would suggest you check with "Glassworks" to see what they think about your situation. Possible, due to their line of work, they have superior knowledge with which to answer your question/s. Best, Dennis

      Re: '61 hardtop

I have been talking to Glassworks and their seems to be a question as to how it should be done. It was left up to me to decide. I just needed some input from someone who might either have knowledge of how it was done or has an example of one that is stamped. The question is whether there is a dash (-) involved or the zero should be dropped from the year 60 as the judging manual suggests.

        Roy,
I went through this very thing with my 61 VIN #4587 with a January 10, 1960 build date. Conversations with Glassworks revealed that the 61/62 TIM & JG was wrong. I used 11/60 as a date for my car.

          Dave,
Did you find that the stamping was 11/60 (with a slash) correct? Also, What is TIM & JG?
          Thanks,

            Ray -

The TIM&JG is the NCRS "Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide", which is the standard against which cars are Flight Judged; they're available at the on-line store on this site.
