Turned on the windshield wiper washer today. Once it started pumping out the water it would not quit. Turned off the ignition and restarted the car and the wipers and the washer was still squirting. I have never been into the washer/wiper motor so is there anything I need to know and/or look at to correct this situation?

some of the 70's GM wiper/pumps used a round plastic wheel that had several (7,8,9?)small tabs that contacted a lever on the pump. If one of them was worn or broke off the pump would start but wouldn't shut off and continued to pump water. Don't know if that's the case on yours or not. If it is, it's an easy fix.
Plus, it's easy to spot Bryan's sage advice! Simply pop off the washer unit's protective insulator and watch the system work. The center carousel has an inclined plane (ramp) molded into the outer surface. As it turns, the solenoid's feeler contact should ride up the ramp and 'park' on the top surface of the carousel causing the washer to shut down.
If it doesn't, you should be able to spot the damage causing it not to park. The carousel in the washer assy is common to all other GM washers of that era and can easily be replaced by pulling off the E-clip that holds it in place....
