    Electrical Problem

Courtesy lights on my midyear do not go off with the door jamb switches. Checked both and found them to be operative but the lights stay on. Checked the headlight switch by rotating it on and off which has no effect on the lights. Where would I look for the problem????? Thanks in advance for all help....Bill

    Re: Electrical Problem

Check for a pinched or trapped wire on the wires leading to the door switches. The lites turn on by finding a ground for the circuit thru the switches. Anything that will drive that circuit to ground ahead of the switch will cause the lights to stay on. For a certain check, remove the switch from each door piller, unplug the wire from the switch and tape the wire end. If the lights stay on, follow the wires back to where they are grounded (usually caught be a screw or pulled over a sharp edge of a bracket)

Bill since you have checked the door jamb switches this could be your problem. The quickest way of verifing is turn on your parking lights and rotate your light switch. If the instrument lights brighten and dim with the rotation of the switch then the light switch is not the problem. If rotating the switch does not change the intensity of the instrument lights, it is possible that the piece of the light switch that when rotated counter-clock-wise that iluminates the the courtesy lights until turned clock-wise is stuck. There is a piece of plastic that rotates in the switch that will lock down a contact. If this plastic slips on the shaft and stays in the counter-clock-wise position the courtesy lights will stay on and the instrument lights will be on the highest illumination position. This information is based on my 68-70 light switch.
