After rebuilding the distributor, replacing valve springs and clutch, I began having problems with the rear of the hood interfering with the top of the distributor sheilding wing nuts. This was called to my attention when I noticed that the shield wing nuts were digging into the underside of the hood (ouch). I know the tolorances are close under the hood because I once used a 1/4" spacer-gasket under the carb - and the air cleaner rubbed the underside of the power bulge. Figure the clearance is probably the same for the back of the hood/distributor housing.
The only thing I can think of that has changed since doing all the work was that I replaced the dist. cap with a new Neihoff (sp?) cap. I'm using lectric limited wires, so the wire config. should be correct. I tossed the old cap, so I don't know if the height of the new cap is taller, and is causing the interferance. Do new caps spec'd for '66 corvette 427's come in different heights? If yes, can anyone suggest a brand that they know will fit under the shielding correctly?
