    Flash Chrome Recommendation

I have a pair of 70 exhaust tips, bezels and a rear licence plate bezel I need flash chromed. Everyone seems to do show chrome only. Anyone have any experiences/recommendations ????? Thanks in advance.

Dale Pearman used to say that Rick at Areba would do it. I'd give him a try.

Pardon my lack of knowledge on this subject but what is the difference between flash chrome and regular chrome?

I truely do not know the difference between flash chrome and rechromeing, However, there is a company called Custom metal Finishing in MI that seems to have fair prices. I have not seen any product from them but have talked to them about their process and they seem to do things the right way. i put up a post earlier about getting pieces rechromed and based on the repsonces I got I asked questions. Their number is 800-383-4277 or e-mail chromeman2@juno.com.

                good luck.

That, in a way, is the sad part of this story. People spend years studying books trying to figure out how to fill a prescription correctly and ultimately find out their lot in life is really only trying to figure out how to read some moron's scriblings on a 4" x 4" piece of paper and not end up in court...

Mike, there ain't no drugs for cataracts, is there? Just part of the "human condition"?

Happy Face: OK, gonna help you out here now...Just remember "SCD"..."SHIFT*COLON*D". Pronounce it (SCD) like "SEED". Any guy with a farm should be able to remember "seed". (I am beginning to suspect Mike doesn't really want to insert any "smiley faces".)

Dave. Call Librandi's Plating in Harrisburg/Middletown PA. Speak with Todd Librandi personally. He will do flash chrome, but doesn't advertise the fact. Won't do it for everybody, because many do not realize the poor quality of a flash chrome finish. He doesn't want unhappy customers. He flash chromed a pair of BB valve covers for me a few years ago. They looked GREAT to me and NCRS "guys" love them. Others look and say the quality of the chrome is crummy.

Flash chrome is chrome plating applied right over bare steel. No copper....no nickel underneath, like "triple chrome" plating. Shows ALL the imperfections of the base metal. Chuck

                          Typically...

"Flash chrome" is a relatively thin plate directly on the underlying metal. "Show chrome" or triple-plate, is usually copper-nickle-chrome in progressive layers, each polised in succession, and when well done results in a "liquid chrome" appearance, which is usually far superior to OE, especially on interior trim items. Flash chome is usually not a good idea on anything other than new or perfectly preserved steel, as even minor pitting will cause poor adhesion.

                            Re: Flash Chrome Recommendation

There was a good discussion on flash chroming within the last month pertaining to the process being used on C1 stainless steel hubcaps and other SS trim. That's what gives the icy blue appearance to the SS which usually has a slightly yellowish cast depending on the nickel content and polishing. John Mc Graw gave a good explanation of the process and the prep required for SS to get an acceptable result. Rick at Areba Services was recommended.
