Thanks for the quick response. Everything I heard about you must be true. If you layed the u-joint flat and measured the u-joint from the end of one cap to the end of the opposite cap it measured 3-11/16 not 4-5/16. I really appreciate the help.
In that case, all I can figure is that the driveshaft is out of an 80-82 Corvette. 80-82 Corvettes used the 1280 series u-joint just like 53-67 Corvettes and some 68-70 Corvettes. Are you sure that the OD of the shaft is 2-1/2"? Except for that dimension and considering that you have 1280 series u-joints, your shaft is very similar to the 63-70. However, 63-70 shafts are 2" OD.
Also, what is the attachment method for the driveshaft yoke. Is it stamped steel straps with bolts or u-bolts with nuts?
THE SHAFT DIAMETER IS 2-1/2 INCHES. CHECKED IT WITH CALIPERS. THE U-JOINTS ARE HELD WITH STAMPED STEEL STRAPS AND BOLTS, NOT U-BOLTS. DRIVESHAFT IS N.O.S. AND HAS NEVER BEEN INSTALLED. I REALLY APPRECIATE YOUR HELP.
By NOS do you mean an actual GM piece with a GM parts label or tag somewhere on it? As far as I know, GM never offered a driveshaft assembly in SERVICE which included the yoke and u-joints. This type of assembly was used in PRODUCTION, though.
THE DRIVESHAFT HAS NO TAGS OR STICKERS ON IT. IT HAS A PROTECTIVE CARDBOARD SLEEVE ON THE OUTPUT SHAFT AND THAT IS IT. ON THE END OF THE YOKE THE WORD SPICER IS CAST INTO THE PART OPPOSITE THE NUMBER 2-1469. THAT IS ALL THE INFORMATION I HAVE AT THIS TIME. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR HELP.
