I hope this isn't a forbidden question. It is restoration related. What is the minimum length & width trailer recommended for trailering a C1 to car shows over long distances (500+ miles)? My only preference is a covered trailer in white. I will be using the trailer for a construction type business also. I will be using a Chevrolet Silverado 1500 5.3 V-8 to tow. What trailer brands are recommended? What options should be added? Price ranges for recommended trailers? Anyone have one for sale?

Re: Trailer for C1
Wells Cargo is very nice. Electric jack and winch make nice options. Get leveling bars too!
Length? A 22 footer works fine, but leaves a fairly short "work space" in the front. Most common is 24 with four wheel brakes.
I really like a LEFT SIDE HATCH to allow opening the car door, makes for much easier entry and exit by the unloader.
I don't like white, simply because lots of folks have white already.https://MichiganNCRS.org

Re: Trailer for C1
Greg,
------Have had pace trailers for 20 years now and have never been disappointed. If you want to consider resale time,a 24ft all white 10500GVW trailer with a 4ft side door and a drivers side door(for gettin in and out of)is the most popular trailer and the easiest resale there is. White is the most predominate color for a reason;it looks better with less upkeep far longer than any of the other color trailers. I like the look, the extras, and the durability of the middle price range Paces the best, but thats just me. They are still very affordable when compared to Featherlites and other more expensive brands. Hope this helps!.........Bill S- Top

Re: This may be forbidden??
Very cool. I admire your dedication. I drive the car on short trips which add about 2000 miles every year but prefer not to endure long trips on interstates with 3:70 gears 3300 RPM at 75 MPH. Worrying about car unattended in motel lots, insurance hassles ect.- Top

Re: Trailer for C1
Greg,
I had an enclosed trailer made for me by Jensen Trailers out of Humbolt, Iowa last Spring. I tow a '56 and found that twenty feet is plently long enough. I would suggest that you not cut corners on quality. This doesn't imply that everyone must have a Featherlite all aluminum trailer, it just means that there are quality differences out there among trailer makers. I had it built with a 8.5' wide body, beavertail, drivers side 40" over wheel well door, curbside door on passenger side, pull down ramp door, ez lube wheels, electric brakes, LED lights so there are no bulbs to change, wall mounted spare tire, in-floor heavy duty Drings, one piece heavy aluminum roof, all wiring routed through enclosed frame structure with rubber grommets, one manual roof vent, heavy duty loading lights positioned front left and rear right about eight inches up from the floor, two ceiling lights and added stabalizer bars (absolute must). All for a little over $7,000. A friend of mine is a dealer for them and sells semi-tractor trailers as his main source of income. If you want to email me off-line I would be happy to share with you additional information.

Re: Trailer for C1
Greg,
I got a 8' by 20' Haulmark for hauling my '60. Still plenty of room in front (5') for spare tire, tools, supplies, porta-potty for mama, etc. I don't plan to sleep in it. The only extra I ordered was an escape (roadside door) which is needed if you plan to drive your car into it as opposed to winching it in. I tow it with a 3/4 ton Chevvy w/diesel. Get 14 plus MPG if I keep it around 65, drops rapidly if I go faster. Most guys prefer 24' and they say resell would be better-however I don't plan to sell. Got it for a little over 5 grand - negotiate with a dealer and maybe you can do better. Send me an e-mail if you would be interested in a used 28' that someone in my area is running an ad in the newspaper. He calls it a Toy Hauler and its got a lot of gadgets.
