    '58 Stamp pad stamping placement

Was the stamping placed differently in '58 for corvettes verses passenger cars? I have seen a couple of '58 passenger pads and the stamping is on the RH side of the pad when looking at it from the front of the engine. I thought (there I go thinking again) that the stamping was on the LH side of the pad. In Colvin's book he states that all 57-59 engine stampings were on the LH side of the stamp pad. My thinking was that Left and Right was from the direction you read the stamping (aka the front of the engine). By that is he actually saying driver's side verses looking at from the front of the engine?

Try the terminology - inboard or outboard. I believe most pre-VIN stamp pads favored the inboard portion of the pad surface for the assembly stamp. DC
