    Judging question

I was wondering how much deduction there is if my Trim tag says I should have a black vinyl interior and I have black leather seats instead. Does that eliminate possibility of a top flight? I have a 67 Corvette. BTW. Thanks!

    Re: Judging question

It is covered in the Judging guide, if I remember it is a 50% deduct on originality, assuming the color is correct. Yes you can get a top flight with this issue

      Re: Judging question

Nick - I think there may have been some recent changes in the Judging Reference Manual as it regards trim tag issues. I would check with Roy Sinor, National Judging Chairman to make sure you are aware of late changing items. Best, Dennis

        Re: Judging question

I thought the new policy was to thwart use of repro trim tags and penalize those who would alter the car to match their desired configuration, Dennis.... The thread, as I read it, asks about leaving the original trim tag intact and installing leather vs, vinyl interior....

If I'm right, then the NCRS Judging Reference Manual's, Section 4 (Standard Deductions), Rule 12 (Altered Cars) rule should apply:

"Change of Interior Color or Fabric: 50% Originality deduction on every item affected by the alteration"

Of course this rule conflicts with Section 4, Rule 14 (Added Or Deleted Options) and, to my knowledge, there's never been a clarification to the Judging Reference Manual telling us what to do when published rules conflict with each other. Rule 14 reads:

"The detectable addition OR deletion of any regular production vehicle option subsequent to factory assembly is inconsistent with NCRS Judging Standards and therefore subject to a full deduction on originality and condition. Examples: ower top, windshield washers, power windows, power steering, power brakes, side mounted exhaust...."

Since leather interior WAS a legitimate RPO option, its addition to a car who's trim tag reads standard vinyl, qualifies as a full deduction item under Rule 14. But, Catch-22, Rule 12 specifically allows it with only a 50% deduction on originality. Seems that NCRS Judging Standards are inconsistent in this area....
