I took off my carb for rebuilding and found at the intake a regular carb gasket, on top of it a 3/8" aluminum plate, on top of it a thin aluminum gasket, and on top of it a regular carb gasket. What are these for? It is on a '64 327/300 with a Carter date code 3461S and under that is CJ3 which I think means Sept.63. The car is a very early '64. Thanks for the info.

Re: What are these gaskets:
Randy, the thin metal (stainless) is a heat riser block to prevent overheating of the carb. The thick plate (believe it is a resin material, not aluminum) is also used to space the carb base from the manifold to reduce heat transfer. I am not certain in what sequence the stack is placed on the manifold but it was in a post some time last year.
