See your local locksmith. If same series, it should be a piece of cake for him/her. Why not match it to the switch key while you're at it?

I took my glove box lock to a locksmith and he made it work with my spare tire lock key. The cost was reasonable. Jim

Re: C2 Glove box lock cylinder

Up through '64, one key worked all locks on the car. After, doors/ignition were keyed separately from GB/spare tire lock. You'll fail Operations check and Performance Verification if you key everything alike when it shouldn't be keyed alike. That's why he doesn't want to use one key for all, Wayne....

Hint! When you get your spare tire lock, the majority of those in catalogs are the residual of GM service spares. MOST came from the Shark era when encoded keyways (A/B, C/D, on the key shank) were used and a fifth wafer/tumbler was added to increase lock permutations.

If the locksmith 'blindly' keys the GB lock to match the NOS (but service replacement) spare tire lock you purchase, you could have problems. First, the encoded keyway of the spare tire lock might reject your pre-67 key blank. This can be solved by a cleaver locksmith filing the keyway tang in the spare tire lock cylinder to make it 'universal'....

Second, a #5 wafer/tumbler (could have one by random chance in the spare tire lock) requires a #5 cut on the key to match. With pre-67 key blanks, a #5 cut sticks out like a sore thumb in comparison to the other cuts and, to a savvy judge, tells him the key/lock is NOT correct for earlier model years (read that as a configuration deduction)....

So, tell your locksmith to make sure NO #5 wafer/tumblers are used in the resulting 'keyed-alike' lock sets!

I'm purchasing my spare tire lock from a reputable savy NCRS member who will provide an original 66 lock. I will be sure to make him aware of your comments.

I assume that the GB lock cylinder that I described with thye B6 coding sounds to be a repro?

            Hi Dave,
There is a business in Akron, Ohio that is called Jesser's Classic Keys,
they do advertise in the Driveline every issue. Their phone number is
330-376-8181. They guarantee their work to pass judging standards.
They can "rekey" just about anything Corvette. Hope this helps you out if
you haven't already solved the key problem.

I only got one key with my 67 ,it looked original and had the knock-out and was coded and worn, after removing all the locks and noted all being stamped alike,I found no code on the glove-box lock and assumed it had been replaced, guessing I would have to settle for a replacement coded key/glovebox /sparetire lock, I carefully removed the front stainless bezel with a pair of small screwdrivers from the glovebox lock and on the inside cylinder was the key CODE.
I matched the tumblers up to new ones and their positions then reassenbled the lock and carefully recrimped the bezel and went to the locksmiths,
He cut a key by coded for the glove box ,telling me this never works and that I must pay for it ,if it fits or not.It fit as did new the ign./door keys cut by code.
