Is there a 63 FI Registry

Was curious if there are any registry sites out there for 63's, particularly Fuelies. And would be curious if anyone has ever done any research into how many 63's (SWC's and Covertibles) are out there. Of the 2610 we'll probably never know, but can't help to wonder how many FI verts there were vs. SWC's.

    Thanks

Only one I am aware of is a 63-67 registry. See link below.

Re: Is there a 63 FI Registry

      Joe,
This subject has interested me for a long time. After purchasing my SWC about 12 years ago, I too wondered how many '63s had survived to this day. I also was very interested in trying to determine aproximately how many code 932 (Saddle Tan) cars were made in 1963 as the production totals for exterior colors in '63 only show the final quantity for 3 out of the 7 color choices of that year. Was Saddle Tan, as I suspected, the rarest of '63 colors?
Of further interest was the production sequence of the assembly line. I wondered if there was a pattern to how these cars were built on any given day. While I do know that the vast majority of cars were built as the orders came in, was Chevy not producing lets say 10 or 12 cars with the same color or options in a row? It just did not seem logical that they would build one Ermine White Coupe with a 340hp, followed by a Black F.I. Roadster and then a Red 250 auto Coupe for example. With that in mind, it would be great to know if the two cars built alongside mine were exactly the same.
To date I have not seen any detailed '63 registry. I have however sort of created my own "personal registry" by recording all 1963 serial numbers that I come across (through want adds etc.) along with any info. that went along with the vin's like body type, color, h.p. and options etc.. So far, I have about 640 cars on my list.
Of interest to you Joe, out of these 640 1963's, I have recorded 135 that claim to be Fuelies. This includes 17 cars that are ZO6. 55 of the 135 F.I. are Roadsters and 78 are Coupes.(2 cars recorded are F.I. but I do not know the body type).
In total so far, 88 cars are said to be Ermine White. Of these 88, 9 are fuelie Coupes and 5 are White fuelie Verts. Of the 5 "sister" cars of yours to date, only one other is an Ermine White Roadster with F.I. and a black interior!
Hope that this info. helps you a bit. By the way, I love your web site and have been following your resto with great interest (yes, I guess that I am really bored). Can't wait to see where you restore your glove box door.
      Best regards,
      Syd

You can add my '63 FI Coupe also. VIN 30837S119240 Ermine White/Red
I'm just collecting parts and looking for previous owners right now. I hope to actually start the restoration process in March.

You wouldn't happen to have any relatives in Omaha, NE. would you? There is a Chuck Garber in my club that owns about 18 vintage cars, two of which are Corvettes. (A '62 and a '66)

          Thanks Jack!
I already had your car on my list! Since I do not date my entries nor do I record exact locations of the cars (unless they are overseas), or the owners names, I can not tell you from where I recorded or when I recorded your cars information.
However, I can tell you that the closest vin, or car, that I have listed to yours is #19,249 which if correct, is a Red/Red 340 Coupe. Also of interest, is that out of all the serial #'s, the group of vin 19,000 to 19,999 are tied for the rarest to date. I only have 16 cars listed with that group!
Does your car have any other options like power brakes or windows, wood grain wheel etc.? If it does, I will finish your vin on my list.
By the way, code 932 Saddle Tan so far is indeed the rarest followed not so closely by code 900 Tuxedo Black. My estimates so far put final production of Saddle Tan at about 1,100 to 1,300 63's.
Anyone else wishing to join this list feel free to contact me!
Sorry, no relation to Chuck in Omaha but I'll have to check that out a little closer. Maybe he's a long lost third uncle or something and I stand to inherit some classics down the road.
          Regards,
          Syd

Re: Is there a 63 FI Registry

            Syd,

Some interesting info and points there. The thought of my car being 1 of 2 makes me very happy. Yet of course we have no way to verify and validate that. Sure sounds good though.

With regard to the registry, others mentioned the 63-67 which I will be checking out. I haven't had a chance yet but am looking forward to it. I've been asked to create one for 63's and put it on my website. It's a thought, but I certainly don't want to reinvent any wheels and would like to see the info consolidated into one place. Sounds like you have a good start also. Perhaps these can all be brought together somehow.

I'll digest some more of this later (long day in the garage today and just wanted to catch up on a few emails and thank everyone for their help today, as in everyday).

            Joe..

ps: The crack in the glove box door was too much to repair. The back is in great shape though so will be mated up with a replacement front piece.

pss: I did just update my website. And yes, you do have too much time on your hands if you're following my follies ;-)

Re: Is there a 63 FI Registry

              Syd,

I checked the gearing on the car and it appears that I have the 3.08. I can't say for sure that it is one of the 211 (G91) RPOs from the Corvette Black Book.
I'm still waiting to hear from one of the previous owners on what he
restored/replaced. My guess is that it is one of the 2,259 (G81) RPOs. I'm
fairly sure it is orginal L84, U69, & M20. The red seats may have been
replaced with red leather rather than vinyl at restoration. The body number
plate shows trim is 490L. Paint code is 936A. Coupe body number is 9673.

              Other than that, nothing special.

I find it amazing that you found another coupe built the same day as mine and ONLY 9 away. I don't know any other cars made the same day as my 2001 Coupe.

              Jack
