I just finished polishing my fender top spears. I only sliped about 6 times, everytime right into the tape I put on the nuts of the shaft. Great tip. If I ever meet you I owe you a beer.

You are welcome! I can't tell you how many times over the years, I have slipped off the wheel and banged a peice of trim against the shaft or nut. It makes it a pain to change the wheels, but a heavy layer of duct tape will prevent much cussing!
