    65 Door Hinges

I'm almost ready to reinstall the door hinges/doors on my 65 roadster. I cleaned and blasted the hinges. I know they will get hit with body color during painting but before that what level of black paint is appropriate (semi-gloss, gloss) if any. Mine had evidence of the zinc-chromate primer on the flat mounting surfaces and seemed to be black also except for the areas hit by the paint. Anyone have a recommendation on this?

    Thank you,

I think that they should be zinc chromate. At least the AOS cars were.

agree with wayne: all c-2's, regardless of st. louis or a o smith, were zinc chromate green underneath the body color. mike

        Which Zinc Chromate To Use

Should I use the real thing which seems to be available from aircraft related suppliers or use the Quanta product, which I believe is just really a paint. What would be the best for judging purposes?

        Thank you,

I thought Z/ chromate was used on the birdcage , you may have this evidence on the portion of the door hinge that bolts to the hinge post / or did the hinge recieve the primer as well ? . I do believe if your going to be spraying the posts and hinges that you should use the correct materials and not just for the color out of a spray bomb, i sugest you build for life and not short term

Good boating supply stores carry the green zinc chromate and zinc phosphate (more EPA acceptable) in spray bombs and quarts. PPG makes a catalized green primer/sealer that has great protection properties and looks exactly like the original birdcage green.
