I may have mentioned before that I never bid on the car. I waited to see if it met reserve, when the auction ended with out the reserve being met I called immediately after the auction and made and offer over the phone.
Thanks for the advice I have been convinced to take a step back and proceed slowly

To you gas cap search try Gm restoration parts,in catogory scroll to the last option "all catagories" and see what is licenced and available for your car

Dont know if this information is still accurate but according to the story In the Restorer Vol 6 # 1, Fuller & Emerson gas caps were used exclusivly after 3/9/61.
BTW you might want to check with Jack Humprey as Ive heard he sells them also.

Thanks a lot I will check them out. I will definitely buy two gas caps. The $8 cap looks very close to the original so I will purchase that for every day use. From what I gather original caps are too expensive to keep on a car, especially when they can be removed in 5 seconds or less. I will seek out the correct one to have it on hand when I get the car judged.

Larry, I looked at the gas cap on the web site GM parts, if it is the same one you looked at it might not be the right one, 61-62 caps were not vented and i might be wrong but it doesen"t look like the orig one to me. Don"t know what you were looking at on e-bay but you can"t always trust the people on e-bay to be experts on what is orig. and what it fits. There were 3 types made and none were vented. Let me know if you were looking at a different cap, i only seen one on GM parts

I have the orig one on my 61, been looking for a long time for a nicer one, they are very rare, i have only seen two. If you put a vented one on it will leak and the fumes will run you out of the car, (even with the top down)

Larry,

Just another plug for judging.

I can see from the pictures that were posted on ebay that you have a great looking car. My only question is when I went through the pictures of the hard top, I noticed that you have a black liner. I have a white liner in mine and was told that white should be standard for the 61 & 62 tops.

Not saying that yours is wrong, but it is different. I would be interested if anyone else has info to add.
