    67 L79 - drivetrain combos available?

For the L79 (327/350) 67 Corvette what tranny/rear-end combos were available?

My copy of the Dobbins 63-67 fact book (pg 235) has a table that lists the following combos as available:

    M20 + 3.36
    M20 + 3.55
    M21 + 3.70
    M21 + 4.11

However looking in Noland Adams book The Complete Corvette Restoration & Technical Guide – Vol 2, on pg 409 under G81 Postraction Rear Axle it lists:

    ECL CA = 3.36, L79 with M20
ECL EA = 3.55, L79 (does not say what tranny)
    ECL FA = 3.70, L79 with M20
    ECL GA = 4.11, L79 with M21

The two differ on the tranny that goes with the 3.70 and may differ on the 3.55. Which is right (if either)? Also were there other combos available for the L79 such as M20 + 3.08 or M21 + 3.55 etc.? Thanks!

The NCRS Spec Guide agrees with what you say is listed in Dobbins.

It's possible that some combinations and their associated ECLs were developed, but never released. There are also a lot of errors in the available literature from all sources, including GM.

    M20 (wide ratio) - 3.36 standard, 3.55 optional
    M21 (close ratio) - 3.70 standard, 4.11 optional

    These combinations make sense.

      Duke,

-----I think a 327/350 with an M20 combined with a 3:70 pumpkin would be a great combo. Very good lower gear acceleration and still some cruisability. Wish Id have known enough to order a vette back then like this!............Bill S

Yeah, but it wasn't available. The shortest gear you could get with M20 (wide ratio) was 3.55, but its only 4 percent taller than 3.70.
