    Coil Spring Markings / Smudges

Each coil spring after cleaning today had a mark running down the length across each coil. It's almost like a thick white or light gray coating. ANy idea what this may be? I have not seen this before. IS this just somebodies mess or perhaps some marking on replacement springs?

The steering knuckles, spindles and tie-rod ends also had yellow paint dabs on them. This I have seen before though.

    Thanks again,

    Joe..

Joe - You have discovered manufacturing marking to ID spring rate or application. That is commom on original springs, at least in the C1 era. Best, Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I actually saw pics of this today in a reference book (Newton's) where the white strip was down the length of the coil.
