How do I adjust my shift point on an auto equipped car? My auto is going until 4200 RPM and then shifting rather than going to redline. The motor and trans have been rebuilt in the last year and I know this has to be a simple adjustment.
I also am wanting to know how I go about adjusting my Quadrajet. i just received my Jerry Luck rebuilt carb, and want to adjust for smoother idle and the choke when cold is not keeping the car at idle.
Mike, according to the '72 shop manual, only two things are involved in the shiftpoint, the kickdown switch, which is either on or off, so if the trans downshifts when you get on it, that probably could be eliminated. The other component was the Vacuum modulator on the trans. Possibilities include a leak or the incorrect unit. Look to see if it was replaced during the rebuild. That would be my first guess.
