64 PB Booster number - Mr. Lucia?

This is for those of you with access to Corvette trivia. I searched the archives and found a member that asked this same question back in 2002 and received ZERO responses, hopefully, this one will do better.

My 64 power brake booster is stamped 4311 on the 10 o'clock tab vs. the 4310 that is stated in the JG. Is my booster a service replacement or is it simply a design improvement and thus has a slightly higher number than what the JG states?

    Thanks!

Re: 64 PB Booster number - Mr. Lucia?

Having had my '64 judged in 2000 at the Pittsburgh regional meet, I can give you some comments. I am 99.9% sure mine is and it is not the 4310 number that is referenced in the judging manual. It's a 4311. I was not given a deduction for originality but was given a 1 point deduction for condition (due to the fact I did try to effect the finish of the booster and it obviously shows some age). A note was written on the judging sheete that mine was a 4311, not a 4310. A was told at that time by the master judge that there was strong evidence over the years that 4311 is also original and that the manual would likely be revised to reflect that. Hope this helps. John-----

I'm not even sure what the significance of these numbers is. The power brake booster for 1964 Corvettes was GM #5464702. So, neither of these numbers is in any way a derivative of that number. I expect that it's some sort of component or manufacturing code.

Several erratta's were released last year....

for the '64-64 TIM&JG book that your chapter judging chairman was given. One deals with this subject. The text describing the power brake booster (pg 119) was changed from:

"The numbers '2025 or 2574' for 1963 models and '4310' for 1964 models....'

        to:

"The numbers '2025 or 2574' for 1963 models and '4310 or 4311' for 1964 models...."

I think that answers the question!
