One member of this board asked me to keep an eye peeled for a good looking, used, original TCS solenoid for his '70. A week back I was wandering a local scrap yard as a 'fresh kill' 1970 Impala was being taken in. Its TCS solenoid was pretty darn fresh, so I grabbed it for my amigo and sent it USPS priority mail to him on Jan 8th.
Late Saturday, the priority mail package re-appeared in my mail box with two USPS applied labels on it. One showed the picture of an aircraft inside a red circle with a red line through the circle and text: "Surface Transportation Only". The other was a green sticker reading:
"Important Customer Information -- We regret that your mail is being returned to you because of heightened security measures. All domestic mail, weighing 16 oz or over, that bears stamps and all international and military APO/FPO mail weighing 16 oz or over, MUST be presented to a retail clerk at a post office. Postage that is affixed to the returned mail may be used for re-mailing the item."
While this package DID bear a $3.85 USPS stamp, it was nowhere near the 1-lb weight limit. Actions suggest USPS did take the holiday season's Orange Alert seriously and may have scanning machines in place to look through packaging to detect 'hostile' shaped items in transit....
Rest assured our government is working diligently to foil those dreaded scrap yard terrorist sleeper cells attempting to raise havoc and disrupt our classic car restoration/preservation efforts!!!!
