    72 stereo radio installation

I replaced the eight track in my 72 coupe with a rebuilt am-fm stereo. My question is does it use both the heat sink assembly and the multiplex assembly, or do I use just the multiplex unit? I have been told both ways, but I can't see where to hook up both units to the radio. Am I missing something? Also, is there is seperate bracket to hold the multiplex up?

    Tom------

If you are talking about a rebuilt ORIGINAL AM-FM Stereo radio, then the answer is that it uses only ONE of the two external units. That unit is the adapter assembly ("multiplex") which mounts in the center, upper dash area directly to the steel reinforcement member.

The convector assembly (heat sink with germanium transistor) used for the mono radio is NOT used for the stereo radio.

Joe, thanks for the response. I really hate to go under the dash anymore than I have to. I will see about making it work. By the way, would that mulitlex have a part no. on it? I bought it out of Florida as factory correct unit(with the rebuilt radio). Are they all like for early c3's?

        Tom----

The adapters may have a part number on them. The 1968 unit was GM #7303201. The 69-72 adapters were GM #7311911 for non A/C applications and GM #7312411 for A/C cars. I believe that the only difference is the integral bracketry. Also, I believe that all three of the aforementioned part numbers are functionally interchangeable and will work with any 68-72 Stereo receiver. The 68 unit is configured differently though.
