58 interior firewall

Early 58 w/ red interior. My firewall has evidence of red overspray on the firewall INTERIOR insulation likely from painting the heater/radio console. Is this factory or bubba? If bubba, any tips on paint concoction to restore black insulation finish appreciated. I was thinking on thinning out some semi gloss or flat black to make a "stain" type paint. Thanks, Ken

flat charcoal close to original but even then judges will probably pick up the painted or as you state, stained cardboard insulation. the cure, replacing the insulation, is a rather extensive fix and one i do when i've got a vette torn down for full restoration. that is the ideal time to replace the firewall insulation but you could sucessfully tackle the problem at this point. . good luck, mike
