    1965 lower and upper pulley

I have a unrestored 1965 coupe which I'm starting to restore and I would like to know if the lower crank shaft pulley and the upper pulley should be painted. Is the correct color matte or semi gloss black or something else. Thanks

Re: 1965 lower and upper pulley

    Rick------

Some pullies were painted semi-gloss black and others were finished with black phosphate (often appearing dark gray, metallic-looking, and looking a bit like fine grit, wet-and-dry emery paper). Pullies of the same part number may have been finished either way. Many, but not all, of the original pullies were finished in black phosphate, though. Later SERVICE pullies of the same part number are almost always semi-gloss black painted or powder-coated. The only way to know how your pullies were originally finished, if you have them, is to inspect them carefully for any vestige of the original finish. The black phosphate is very difficult to duplicate.
